Chimney Crown Repair

Repair for cracked and deteriorated chimney crowns.

The crown is the concrete or mortar cap at the very top of your chimney, and it's your first line of defense against water. When it cracks, water works its way into the masonry below. We repair cracked and deteriorated crowns to seal that entry point.

What's included

  • Sealing of cracked crowns
  • Repair of deteriorated crown surfaces
  • Waterproof protective coatings
  • Prevention of freeze-thaw damage
  • Protection for the masonry below

Why crowns fail in New England

Our freeze-thaw cycles are hard on masonry. Water seeps into a hairline crack, freezes, expands, and widens the crack — over and over through the winter. Repairing the crown early stops that cycle before it reaches the brick.

Repair vs. rebuild

If the crown is cracked but structurally sound, a repair and waterproof coating is usually the right call. If it's badly deteriorated or was poorly built, a full crown rebuild is the more durable long-term fix.
